BADA Antiques & Fine Art Fair 2013

The leading UK fair returns with an array of works from over 80 dealers, and includes some outstanding examples of fine jewellery. Duke of York Square, just off the King’s Road in Chelsea, plays host to the 21st edition of the BADA Antiques & Fine Art Fair, one of the leading UK fairs on the international calendar.

A mid 19th century Neo Classical French gilt and silvered bronze mantel clock. This clock is decorated with a lady seated on a tree stump, holding a spaniel on a leash, the silvered dial set in the tree stump, with Roman numerals, raised on a rectangular plinth base on scrolling feet, the twin train movement with outside count wheel striking on a bell.

A Louis XV Style Kingwood Chest of Drawers

France, circa 1880. RMB 200,000. Dimension: 95.5cm × 100cm × 51cm.

The serpentine Breche d’Alep marble top, six short gilt tooled leather fronted drawers, each with scroll folate handles, the angles with foliate pierced foliate scasps, the bombe sides with quarter veneer panels on cabriole legs and scrolling foliate sabots.

An Austrian Hand Painted Cupboard Dated 1781

Austria, 1781. Dimension: 185cm × 107cm × 70cm.

Such cupboards were originally made for the daughters of local prominent families on their marriage. The girls would take their families finest work to their new marital home to store precious linen and clothes. Each of these pieces would have very special meanings from the family and it has gone through many generations. Nowadays they are very collectible as examples can be seen in the castles of the Alps and in the museums of Northern Europe.

London Art Gallery to Host Lincoln Seligman Paintings

LONDON – A major exhibition of paintings recording the results of Lincoln Seligman’s travels, entitled “An artist at large” will open at La Galleria Pall Mall, London SW1Y 4UY on Dec. 3-8. The show will feature around 60 paintings with prices ranging from £1,000-£20,000. For the past three years artist and sculptor Lincoln Seligman has crisscrossed the globe, covering more than 200,000 miles over four continents. Armed with sketchpad, brushes and camera, he has captured remarkable images from Tuscan hill villages to Indian palaces and from the shores of Africa......

Gilt-bronze or ormolu clocks and ornaments

Gilded bronze or ormolu decoration reached its peak at the beginning of the 19th century in France. This medium was not new, as it had enjoyed international reputation during the time of the Kings of France. However, the number of craftsmen increased after the French Revolution and in the middle of the 19th century there were between 40 and 60 workshops in Paris. Bronze is cheaper than gold and silver and much easier to work with. For this reason, it became the favourite material for clock cases, candelabra and furniture......
