The serpentine Breche d’Alep marble top, six short gilt tooled leather fronted drawers, each with scroll folate handles, the angles with foliate pierced foliate scasps, the bombe sides with quarter veneer panels on cabriole legs and scrolling foliate sabots.
These are known as bombe chests which refer to their shape. Bombe chests are outward-bulging in the front and sides and curve curving inward at the base. This marble topped chest and the drawers are faced in tooled (decorated) leather. This fine piece of furniture would have been in the salon or drawing room of a grand chateau or Parisian apartment.
