In Collection: Cabinet Furniture
A late 19th century German oak chest of drawers incorporating many details from previous periods. The ball and claw feet were popular in Georgian times (the inspiration for the design of the ball and claw foot came from a Chinese motif of a dragon’s claw clutching a pearl or crystal ball). This piece similarly has shell motifs also popular in English furniture. The front has moulded detail and a serpentine shape that twists and curves like a snake or serpent, thus typically French. The brass handles depict eagles, a German motif.
